Throughout Term 1, Tavleen has been learning to recognise high frequency words and ways to work out unfamiliar words.   She completed a PM Benchmark Reading Assessment with me and read a Green Level 14 text.   Tavleen read at a good pace and cross-checked to confirm that the words spoken were correct.   She answered 80% of the comprehension questions accurately.
Evidence of learning

Tavleen found this text relatively easy, scoring 97% on word accuracy with 5 errors and 10 self-corrections.  She sometimes used the pictures to try make sense of the story and thought about what the word could be when she realised that what she had said wasn’t correct.   Tavleen has a good understanding of letter sounds which help her to decode difficult words.
Key Competencies/Vision Principles
Tavleen enjoys reading.  She is developing her Capabilities in Reading and Thinks about what she is reading so that it makes sense.  Tavleen is increasing her ability to recognise high frequency words (Using Language, Symbols and Text) and tries to Connect what she is reading to her own life experiences.
Next Learning Steps
  • Choose a range of books to read from the library
  • Question why a character may choose to act in a certain way
  • Read to someone everyday at home
